FILM THINGS
INSPIRED BY POOR THINGS (2023)
A recreation of The Poor Things sunglasses, worn by Emma Stone’s Bella.
Informed by direct reference to the original prop frame with a few changes to improve fit and wearability.
FROM COMMISSION...
In October 2023 we were asked by Oscar winning costume designer Holly Waddington to reproduce the original Victorian Sunglasses worn by Emma Stone in Poor Things.
Made from real tortoiseshell (now thankfully outlawed) and very small in stature, the frame instantly inspired us.
We were lucky enough to have the frame for a week and took a full set of measurements and created a 1:1 3D model from which our copies were produced.
The frame is already causing quite a stir and following winning numerous awards including Best Costume Design at the Oscars it’s set to become a cult classic.

OUR LIMITED EDITION REPLICA FRAME
We have made some changes to the frame design for customers that wanted the exact look from the film.
Size:
Back in the day spectacles were insanely small as lenses could only be made in very small sizes. The Poor Things frame was so small that most heads would snap it in half! So, we have upped the width from 115mm to 130mm.
Folding arms:
Articulated arms don’t work in acetate. Tortoise shell is a much stiffer material so the original pinched onto the head. We made some in acetate and tried it but they didn’t feel secure enough. We have opted for an acetate arm with a metal core wire. Feels great.
Lenses:
The original has heavy green glass lenses, we are using high index flattened plastic lenses.
We have produced a number of prototypes of this frame to work out how to get the look as close as possible to the original frame whilst functioning as best as possible. We hope you appreciate our efforts and enjoy wearing them
