What is MADE to MEASURE?

Made to measure means glasses that truly belong to you.

Most eyewear is built around averages; average heads, average bridges, average proportions. But no one has an average face, and no one should have to settle for an average fit.

At the HOUSE of SPECTACLES, MADE to MEASURE is our way of fitting frames to your features, your width, your bridge, your cheekbones, your personality. It’s a process rooted in craft and comfort, created in our London workshop by people who understand not just how glasses are made, but how they’re worn.

About how a frame sits, how it feels, how it complements the natural lines of your face.
That’s the expertise the eyewear industry overlooks and it’s the part we obsess over.

Because when glasses fit you properly, everything looks and feels better: the proportions, the comfort, the confidence.

That’s the difference MADE to MEASURE makes.

Handcrafted MADE to MEASURE glasses in multiple sizes and colours, the HOUSE of SPECTACLES Series 01.

Designed for Your Exact Fit.

Every face tells a different story.

Every face has its own proportions. Your width, your bridge, your cheekbones, your features, all influence how a pair of glasses should sit. This is why MADE to MEASURE at the HOUSE of SPECTACLES begins with a clear fit system that is simple to understand and easy to try.

Each frame can be made in head widths from XS to XXL, and bridge sizes from XXS to XXL. These sizes have been determined by our extensive experience in bespoke eyewear and working with real humans. By combining head width and bridge size, every style can be created in 42 fit combinations.

A fit system shaped by how glasses are worn.

Instead of relying purely on technical measurements, we use physical templates in every size. You try them on. You feel how each one sits. You see how the proportions change. This approach is natural, accurate, and based on the way glasses are really worn.

Small changes in width or bridge shape can transform comfort, balance, and confidence. It is this attention to wearability that makes your MADE to MEASURE frame feel like it belongs to you

See the Difference in Fit.

The easiest way to understand MADE to MEASURE is to see it. Our simple method of combining your head width and bridge size allows for drastic combinations that can scale to any face size and shape. This lets you choose a frame that feels balanced and natural rather than forcing you into a standard size.

The comparison below shows the same style in two different sizes.

LEFT: BEC LIGHT in width XXL with a XS bridge, often solves problems for those with a small low bridge.

RIGHT: BEC LIGHT in width XS with a L bridge – Perfect for a person with a small head and larger nose  bridge.

Small Details, BIG Differences

A small increase in width can open up a frame and improve balance on a broader face. A wider bridge can bring the frame down the face, preventing it  from obscuring the eyebrows. These adjustments are subtle but essential, and they are what make a MADE to MEASURE frame feel right, and look great, from the moment you put it on.

How the MADE to MEASURE Process Works.

Choosing glasses should feel easy. Our process is simple, personal and shaped entirely around you. Every step is designed to help you understand how each frame sits on your face and how the right size can change everything.

Step 01: Find your style

We start by exploring the styles and colours that feel most like you. We discuss your lifestyle and prescription requirements and any other factors that may determine your frame choice.

You can try any of our designs and get a sense of the shapes, colours and lines that suit your personality and your features.

Step 02: Find your sizes

Each style comes in head widths from XS to XXL, bridge sizes from XXS to XXL and a choice of temple lengths. Many people struggle with temples that are too short or too long, so having different lengths means your frame will sit comfortably without slipping or creating pressure.

We use physical templates in every size so you can try each option, feel how each one sits and see the difference in real time. This part is relaxed, intuitive and often quite fun.

Step 03: Your frame is handmade in London

Once your fit is chosen, we create your frame in our London workshop. Every piece is shaped, finished and detailed by hand, using techniques that put comfort, balance and longevity first.

Frame production is carried out in-house and takes up to 4 weeks.

Step 04: Final fitting and glazing

When your frame is ready, we help you with the final details. Lenses are fitted, adjustments are made and we refine the frame so it feels natural and effortless from the first moment you wear it.

Step 05: Aftercare

Our made-to-measure service includes long-term care.
We invite customers to return after 12–24 months for:

Re polishing: The great thing about acetate that it can be rebuffed to look as good as new.

Hinge checkup: Hardware will inevitably loosen with use. We check tolerances and re-crimp where necessary.

Prescription Updates: We believe each frame should be able to be reglazed 1-2 times.

Materials, Colours, Craft.

We work with premium Italian acetates chosen for their quality, depth of colour and durability. We shape and finish it by hand in our East London workshop to bring that character to life.

All of our frames are built using premium German and Italian hardware — high-precision hinges chosen for their durability, smooth action and long-term reliability.

Colour is personal. During your appointment, we refine the choices from our full library to create YOUR SET, a selection of colours that suit your skin tone, your eye colour, your hair and your style. This makes choosing a frame feel simple and instinctive rather than overwhelming.

A handmade frame with the finest finish

Once your colour is chosen, the frame is cut, shaped and polished through more than fifty separate stages. Our process blends precision tools with time honoured craft.

Understanding Face Shapes and Proportion.

Every face has its own balance. The width of your features, the height of your bridge, the line of your cheekbones and the shape of your jaw all influence how a frame should sit. This is why MADE to MEASURE is not only about size, it is about proportion. The right frame feels natural because it follows the structure of your face rather than fighting it.

Finding the style that suits you

During your appointment we guide you through shapes, widths and bridges that work with your features. Some frames open the face, some soften it, some add structure and definition. Our focus is always on wearability and comfort.

Most people are surprised by how much difference the right proportion makes.

In the future we will be adding a full guide to choosing frames for different face shapes, with clear examples and simple advice. Once available, this guide will be linked from here.

“For me, my dispensing experience is invaluable when it comes to designing glasses. Designing is obviously about fashion and style but each design starts by imagining a type of face. Each face comes with a different set of criteria and parameters.”
